Davie Police said they have arrested a juvenile in connection with the fire that destroyed a local foundation's building.

The minor was charged with arson, according to police, who did not identify him.

The EASE Foundation lost everything in Saturday's fire, the charity’s executive director said.

"I give out food five days a week. I have nothing to give anymore because everything is lost, so we don't have anything,” Linda Owen said. “We're starting from nothing. We don't even have a space."

The first started on Saturday at about 3:30 p.m. when a juvenile lit a trash can on fire in Potter Park, police said.

The blaze consumed shelves of food and piles of toys for 200 families in need this holiday season, Owen said.

“They wouldn't let me near it. I just wanted to get in and they wouldn't let me in to the building and all of our stuff and all of the records and all of the food and all of the toys were just up in flames ... and gone,” said Owen, who helped start the foundation 27 years ago.

The organization is getting a boost as it begins to rebuild, however. The pastor of Liberty Life Center has helped bring $5,000 to the foundation – and she did it in a matter of minutes.

"I asked how many people will give $500 and they started standing, then $100, and they started standing, and then $50, then $20 and by the time we were done we had $5,000,” pastor Dawn McCann said.

Owen said that with no place to put food and toy donations, all she can accept right now is money.

The EASE Foundation’s mailing address is 6901 Orange Drive, Davie, FL 33314. For more information, seewww.easefoundation.org.
